Education

Ander Leiza Balda obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry with honors in July 2023 from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). During the final year, he studied for 4 months abroad at Queen's University (Kingston, Canada) as a member of the TASSEP program. Moreover, he also performed an internship where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Philipp Winter to carry out his final project at Bayer CropScience (Monheim, Germany). The Bachelor thesis focused on the Synthesis of a Series of Benzamides Containing 1,2,4-Triazoles for Biological Screening as Active Insecticide Components.
Furthermore, he obtained the Master's Degree in Synthetic and Industrial Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) with honors in July 2024. During his master thesis, he worked on Computational and Experimental Studies on the Stereoselectivity of the Ugi Reaction Involving Chiral Aldehydes Application to the Synthesisof Functional Polymers in Fernando Cossio's and Haritz Sardon's groups, under the supervision of Abel Ruiz de Cozar, Fernando Vidal and Ivan Rivilla.

Research

Currently he is doing his Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Haritz Sardon and Dr. Fernando Vidal. His research is focused on both the design of novel photocatalysts and photobases.
