Education

Ibon holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry, conferred by the University of the Basque Country, San Sebastian, Spain in 2001. Prior to this, he completed his undergraduate studies in Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country in 1996, including a year as an ERASMUS Student at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland (1994-1995). Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Odriozola pursued postdoctoral research, spending two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Université de Strasbourg, France (2001-2003), where he worked under the guidance of the Nobel laureate Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn. He also spent a year as a Visiting Scientist at Leeds University, UK (2005-2006), focusing on the development of self-assembling nanosystems. Odriozola has also gained extensive experience in industry, particularly in the development of polymeric materials for packaging applications. As the Head of Innovation at Constantia Flexibles, he established a new Product Excellence Center, a research center for the design and development of innovative concepts in one of the biggest flexible packaging company worldwide. As the R&D Director at Poligal, he was responsible for the development of new sustainable solutions for the flexible packaging industry.

Research

Having a background in Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry, Odriozola's research was focused on the concept of reversible covalent bonds applied to polymer systems. In this capacity, he spearheaded the creation of new dynamic polymer networks with room-temperature self-healing properties, as well as thermoset composites that possess reprocessable, repairable and recyclable characteristics:
