Education

Malavika earned her Master's degree in Chemistry from Amrita University (India) and graduated with first rank in the Five-Year Integrated Master's Programme in 2020. She conducted her Master's project at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (India) and a minor research project on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) at her university. She was awarded the IASc-INSA-NASI summer research fellowship in 2018 and completed the fellowship at CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (India).

From 2020 to 2022, she worked as a Sciences Editor (Chemistry) for Continual Engine (India), edited alt-texts using AI-enabled accessibility products, and worked on projects with Macmillan and Pearson.

In Jan 2023, she started pursuing a BS degree in Data Science and Applications from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras (India).

Research

Malavika developed polyethersulfone-based hollow fibre membranes for gas separation applications for her Master's project. As part of her minor project, she synthesized and characterized MOF complexes of Copper Pyromellitates, followed by their reaction with organic bases. During her summer fellowship, she studied the stimuli-responsive self-assembly and designed and synthesized a terpyridine-appended tetraphenylethylene derivative.

Currently, she is undertaking her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Nicholas Ballard, and the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network is funding her fellowship. Her research is part of the project CINEMA which focuses on using machine learning to control emulsion polymerization processes and products.
