Education

Beatriz Passos obtained her bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Biotechnology from the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) in 2021. During her bachelor studies, she was an undergraduate student at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz/IOC), where she participated in a project focused on cerebral malaria and mesenchymal stromal cell therapy, which resulted in two article papers.

In 2023, Beatriz completed her master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz/IOC). Her research during the master's program concentrated on understanding the modulation of mesenchymal stromal cells in endothelial cells stimulated by heme and hemozoin. She was awarded the FAPERJ Nota 10 scholarship for being the best student in the program in 2023.

Research

Currently, Beatriz is pursuing a double degree in Biorobotics and Applied Chemistry and Polymeric Materials. A collaboration between the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Italy, the Italian Institute of Technology, and the University of the Basque Country in Spain. She is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow associated with the "Theratools" doctoral network project, which aims to provide the scientific community with innovative solutions to address key challenges related to brain diseases. Her doctoral thesis project focuses on establishing an in vitro and personalized model of the blood-brain barrier.
