Education

Yousef TAMSILIAN earned his Bachelor's degree (2008) and Master's degree (2011) in Chemical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, followed by a PhD (2016) in Nanotechnology from the same institution. His research integrated experimental and theoretical methods to investigate smart waterborne polymeric core-shell nanostructures, targeting applications at multiphase interfaces within the environmental and energy sectors.
Since completing his PhD, Dr. Tamsilian has cultivated a dual-career trajectory that bridges academia and industry. His academic journey has been enriched by participating in numerous national and international research programs, alongside conducting bootcamp courses and fostering exchange collaborations. These experiences have significantly strengthened his expertise in advanced material engineering and characterization. He has successfully led and contributed to a multitude of research projects, supervised Master's and PhD students, and established a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and patents. Furthermore, he serves as a peer reviewer for prestigious journals, projects, and ISO standards.
His international research profile includes extended collaborations and visiting fellowships at esteemed institutions such as POLYMAT (Spain), Texas Tech University (USA), and Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi (Italy). He has also forged collaborative partnerships with Oregon State University (USA), Imperial College London (UK), the University of Montpellier (France), Technical University of Clausthal (Germany), Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Qatar), and leading Iranian technical universities. This global engagement has provided him with deep familiarity with international research environments and mastery of state-of-the-art techniques in materials engineering and characterization.
Certified in PMP, Risk Management, Strategy Management, and Business Development, Yousef has expertly led projects using both predictive (FEL to EPC) and agile (Lab to TRL9) methodologies. His ability to collaborate effectively with industry consultants and EPC contractors underscores his proven talent for translating cutting-edge research into viable, market-driven solutions, particularly in sustainability, energy, and the circular economy.

Research

Dr. Tamsilian's research expertise encompasses surface engineering, polymer science, smart nanocomposites, and porous media for energy and environmental applications. His work integrates fundamental materials chemistry with practical application development, aiming to advance sustainable technologies and generate innovative solutions for complex industrial challenges.
His current research, supported by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (HORIZON-MSCA), is centered on CO₂ capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). At POLYMAT in the group of Prof. Radmila TOMOVSKA, he is developing novel graphene and thiol-ene block copolymer nanogyroids. This project synergizes polymer/graphene gyroid design, advanced material characterizations, and process design packages as well as engineering design to develop a new technological platform for CO2 capture and sequestration.
