Fundamentals of dispersion polymerization

We study the fundamental mechanisms of polymerisation in dispersed media to understand and control the formation of multiphase particles.

Polymerisation in dispersed media typically involves several monomers with different reactivity ratios reacting in multiphase systems, where they are unevenly distributed between phases. Many products of interest contain multiphase particles generated by phase separation during polymerisation. Since these systems are thermodynamically unstable, their kinetic stabilisation depends on the use of surfactants or other stabilising species.
Our research addresses the fundamental aspects of this complex process, focusing on polymerisation mechanisms, radical entry and exit, particle morphology and the role of surfactants in nucleation and system stability.
