HR STRATEGY

People at the center of our research.

POLYMAT promotes a human resources strategy aligned with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct, promoting equal opportunities, professional development and scientific excellence.

A commitment to people and excellence

At POLYMAT, we believe that professional and personal satisfaction drives scientific excellence.

Therefore, our human resources policy is based on European principles that promote a fair, transparent, and collaborative work environment.

Since 2017, we have held the HR Excellence in Research seal, awarded by the European Commission, which recognizes the quality of our people management and our commitment to continuous improvement.

The European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct

The European Commission adopted the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, drafting two documents aimed at both researchers and employers and providers of public and private funding. Both documents have become key elements of European Union policy, making research an attractive career path and boosting economic growth and employment in Europe.
Specifically, the European Charter for Researchers outlines the roles, responsibilities, and rights of researchers and their employers. The goal is to ensure that the relationship between these parties contributes to the success in the generation, transfer and sharing of knowledge, as well as to the professional development of researchers from the earliest stages.

HRS4R implementation in POLYMAT

POLYMAT has adopted the 40 principles of the Charter and Code through the HRS4R mechanism – Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, designed by the European Commission to improve human resource management in scientific institutions.

  • 1

Internal analysis of the institutional situation.

  • 2

    Publication of the Institutional Strategy.

  • 3

Evaluation and approval by the European Commission.

  • 4

    Continuous application and self-assessment.

  • 5

    External evaluation every four years.

HRS4R implementation in POLYMAT

The implementation of HRS4R has allowed us to review and strengthen our people management policies, identifying areas for improvement and defining concrete actions.

POLYMAT promotes a culture of integrity and ethics, supported by an Organizational and Management Model that guarantees regulatory compliance and transparency.

This commitment is reflected in the Strategic Plan and the Compliance Plan, which fully integrate the HRS4R principles.

Psychosocial well-being

At POLYMAT, we promote a safe, healthy, and respectful work environment where people can develop both professionally and personally.
Following a comprehensive psychosocial assessment, we have identified areas for improvement and defined an action plan for the coming years, focused on strengthening work-life balance, active listening, and ongoing support.
Our commitment is to move towards a more humane, collaborative, and sustainable culture.

HR Recognition for Excellence in Research

On July 4, 2017, POLYMAT received the official “HR Excellence in Research” award from the European Commission.
Since then, the institution has maintained a continuous evaluation and improvement process, with action plans updated and approved by the European Commission for 2019–2022 and 2023–2025
.
This recognition reinforces our position as a center committed to the well-being, equality, and development of its research staff.

HR Recognition for Excellence in Research

POLYMAT applies Open, Transparent, and Merit-Based Recruitment (OTM-R) policies, one of the pillars of the European Charter.

This model guarantees equal opportunities, mobility, and recognition of merit, considering not only publications but also training, teaching, management, dissemination, and knowledge transfer.

This ensures fair and efficient recruitment processes aligned with European standards.
