Dr. Mónica Moreno
Mónica Moreno earned her BS in Chemistry from the University of Salamanca in June 2008 and her MS in Applied Chemical and Polymeric Materials, from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She spent one academic year at Bristol University (United Kingdom) as an Erasmus student from September 2007 to June 2008. During this year she carried out a research project in the Soft Matter group under the supervision of Dr. Paddy Royall, investigating on colloidal hard-spheres crystallization.
She also carried out a summer secondment in 2007 at Inasmet-Tecnalia (Basque Country) in the materials characterization department.
She started her PhD in in 2008 at the Chemical Engineering Group (POLYMAT) in the University of the Basque Country under supervision of Dr. Monika Goikoetxea and Prof. Maria Jesus Barandiaran. Her research was focussed on the polymerization in aqueous media of monomers from renewable resources and more specifically of sunflower oil fatty acids for coating applications. To complement her research, he spent three months at Akzo Nobel (Slough, UK), researching on waterborne paints.
Dr. Mónica Moreno is the Head of the Projects Office at POLYMAT, where she leads the strategic planning, coordination, and oversight of the Center’s research project portfolio. She is responsible for defining internal procedures, aligning project development with institutional priorities, and ensuring compliance with funding regulations at both national and European levels. Mónica supervises the Projects Office team, provides guidance to Project Managers and researchers, and represents POLYMAT in interactions with funding agencies and strategic partners. Her role also includes monitoring funding trends, supporting institutional decision-making, and fostering a culture of excellence in research management.
