Ibon Odriozola obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), San Sebastian, Spain, in 2001. He earned his Chemistry degree from the same university in 1996, including an ERASMUS year at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (1994–1995).
Following his doctoral studies, he spent two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Strasbourg, France (2001–2003), working under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn. He then returned to UPV/EHU, where he served for two years as a Lecturer in Organic Chemistry.
In 2005, he joined CIDETEC, a private research center specializing in advanced materials. During his tenure, he spent one year as a Visiting Scientist at the University of Leeds, UK (2005–2006), focusing on the development of self-assembling nanosystems. With expertise in Organic, Supramolecular and Polymer Chemistry, his research at CIDETEC centered on reversible covalent bonds in polymer systems. He led the development of dynamic polymer networks with room-temperature self-healing properties, as well as thermoset composites that are reprocessable, repairable and recyclable.
In 2016 he moved to industry, where he focused on the development of polymeric materials for packaging applications. As Head of Innovation at Constantia Flexibles, one of the world’s leading flexible packaging companies, he established a Product Excellence Center dedicated to the design and development of innovative packaging solutions. Later, as R&D Director at Poligal, he led the development of sustainable technologies for the flexible packaging sector.
Currently, at POLYMAT, he is responsible for promoting knowledge transfer through intellectual property exploitation and the creation of new spin-off companies.
