Pegah Sanjarnia is a Biomaterials Engineer and final-year PhD researcher at POLYMAT, working under the supervision of Marcelo Calderón in the Responsive Polymers for Therapeutics group. She obtained her Master's degree in Biomaterials Engineering from University of Tehran, where her research focused on the development of antibacterial wound dressings.
Her PhD research is conducted in close collaboration with industrial partners, providing valuable experience at the interface of academic research and industrial innovation. Her work focuses on the design and development of advanced polymeric biomaterials for biomedical and dermo-cosmetic applications, with particular emphasis on polysaccharide-based materials, in situ forming hydrogels, and bioinspired systems. By combining material synthesis, physicochemical characterization, and biological evaluation, she aims to develop functional biomaterials with strong translational potential.
Her research interests include biomaterials design, medical devices, wound healing, tissue engineering, drug delivery, and the translation of advanced materials into healthcare and cosmetic products. This multidisciplinary background enables her to bridge fundamental polymer science and application-driven research, contributing to the development of next-generation biomaterials for real-world challenges.
