Multilayer and Soft Polymers for Biomedicine

We develop polymeric capsules and advanced soft materials for therapeutic, regenerative and cosmetic applications.

Our research is structured around two main lines. The first focuses on the development of polymeric capsules using the Layer-by-Layer (LbL) technique, which enables precise control of their architecture and functionalisation. We design polymeric and hybrid building blocks assembled at the micro and nanometric scale to obtain multifunctional capsules capable of encapsulating drugs, biomacromolecules or contrast agents, optimising their stability and targeted release. These systems are evaluated in 2D and 3D in vitro models of pathologies such as cancer, inflammation or oxidative stress. The second line explores the potential of eutectic solvents and eutectogels as versatile biomedical materials. Thanks to their high solubilisation capacity, permeability and biocompatibility, they enable the efficient transport of active ingredients. Eutectogels, with tuneable mechanical properties and controlled release, open new possibilities in drug delivery, skin care, wound healing and regenerative medicine.
