Dr. Miguel Sanchez
Miguel Sánchez de la Fuente is an organic chemist who earned his B.Sc. in Chemistryfrom the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). He completed his Master's degree inOrganic Chemistry in Madrid, carrying out his final project at Synthelia Organics S.L.,where he worked in flow chemistry. He later began his Ph.D. in Organic MaterialsChemistry within the Pores in Materials: Polymers and Metals group, under thesupervision of Prof. Rubén Mas-Ballesté at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Duringthis period, he worked on the design of covalent organic functional materials for catalyticapplications. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2025.
Miguel received a fellowship from the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (FPI 2020),which enabled him to begin his research in the field of Covalent Organic Materials(COMs). His work focused on the design and synthesis of functional building blocks, inspired by traditional molecular catalysts, for use as precursors in the construction ofcovalent frameworks with heterogeneous catalytic activity. The projects in which Miguelwas involved included the characterization of these materials (CTFs, PAFs, and CMPs)and their application in photocatalytic, asymmetric, and electrocatalytic transformations.During his Ph.D., Miguel completed a three-month internship at Oregon State University(USA) in the group of Prof. Kyriakos Stylianou, where he worked on the application ofCOMs in photocatalytic hydrogen production and biomass valorization. In November2025, Miguel joined the Innovative Polymers Group at Polymat, where he is currentlyconducting research on the synthesis of monomers and the development of conductivepolymers for energy storage applications.
