David Mecerreyes

Prof. David Mecerreyes graduated from the University of the Basque Country (EHU) in 1994 and obtained his PhD in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Liège in 1998 under the supervision of Dr. Robert Jérôme. He later carried out postdoctoral research at IBM Almaden Research Center and Stanford University with Dr. James L. Hedrick and Prof. Craig Hawker. In 2001, he joined CIDETEC, where he led the Nanomaterials Unit, and in 2011 he became an Ikerbasque Research Professor at POLYMAT-EHU. His career includes a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship, an ERC Consolidator Grant, visiting professorships at Deakin University and Beijing Institute of Technology, and the 2020 Research Excellence Award from the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ). He is also co-founder of the POLYKEY spin-off company and has served on the editorial boards of several international journals. His research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of functional polymers, particularly poly(ionic liquid)s, conducting polymers, redox polymers and polymer electrolytes for energy storage and bioelectronics. He has contributed to pioneering developments in polymer brushes, single-chain nanoparticles, proton-conducting membranes and ionic polymers, and has published more than 300 scientific articles and delivered over 70 invited lectures worldwide.
