Nahikari Martin Larrañaga
Nahikari Martin Larrañaga earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry by the University of the Basque Country (EHU) in July 2024. For her bachelor’s thesis, entitled “Synthesis of non-isocyanate polyurethanes with carbon dioxide” and completed under the supervision of Prof. Lourdes Irusta and Prof. Oihane Sanz, she optimized the carbon dioxide fixation into epoxidated soybean oil (ESBO) using a high-pressure reactor. This process successfully yielded a carbonated monomer which subsequently was used to develope non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) coatings. In 2025, she earned a Master’s Degree in Polymer Chemistry from EHU. For her master’s thesis, she developed self-blown hybrid/NIPU foams based on carbonated soybean oil (CSBO) under the supervision of Prof. Lourdes Irusta and Prof. Alba Gonzalez. Starting in April 2026, she is working on her PhD continuing and deepening the projects started in both, Bachelor’s and Master’s Thesis, in order to pursue more sustainable materials based on vegetable oils, under the supervision of Prof. Lourdes Irusta and Prof. Alba Gonzalez in the Sustainable Polymeric Materials for Advanced Applications research group at EHU.
