Removable Pressure Sensitive Adhesives
Polímeros y sostenibilidad
Background
Conventional pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) adhere strongly but are difficult to remove cleanly from surfaces, often leaving residue or damaging substrates.
There is a growing need for removable, residue-free PSAs that combine temporary adhesion, strong performance, and ease of removal for applications in labels, packaging, and surface protection.
Invention
This invention introduces a novel removable waterborne Pressure Sensitive Adhesive formulated via radical copolymerization of acrylic monomers that comprises at least a compound which is a mixture of isosorbide monomethacrylate and dimethacrylate.
The resulting adhesive displays excellent tack and peel strength under normal conditions but can be detached on demand when exposed to a mild basic solution or trigger.
The process is waterborne, solvent-free, and compatible with industrial coating and film-lamination processes.
Potential Applications
- Recyclable labels and temporary protective films.
- Electronics and automotive films requiring residue-free removal.
- Reusable tapes and masking materials.
- Industrial processes demanding controlled release PSAs.
Key Benefits
- Strong adhesion during use and clean removal when triggered.
- Residue-free separation, preserving the substrate surface.
- Waterborne and environmentally friendly formulation.
- Tunable adhesion by comonomer composition.
- Applicable to multiple substrates (metal, glass, plastics, paper).
