Jone Muñoz-Ugartemendia receives a Best Poster Award at ESB 2026

Jone Muñoz-Ugartemendia, a researcher in the ZIBIO Group at POLYMAT, has received a Best Poster Award at ESB 2026, the 35th Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials.

Her poster, “PLLA Blends for Melt-Electrowritten Piezoelectric Scaffolds in Neural Tissue Regeneration”, presents research on PLLA/PLCL blends designed for the fabrication of biodegradable, soft and piezoelectric scaffolds through melt electrowriting.

The work shows that the blend retains piezoelectric functionality and cytocompatibility while the incorporation of PLCL improves melt stability and broadens the processing window. These properties support the fabrication of stable, oriented structures with potential applications in neural tissue engineering.

ESB 2026 took place in Antwerp, Belgium, from 7 to 11 September 2026 and marked the 50th anniversary of the European Society for Biomaterials.
