IONBIKE 2.0: advancing eutectogel research through international collaboration

Two recent and independent developments involving POLYMAT illustrate how IONBIKE 2.0 combines scientific mobility and collaborative research to advance eutectogel technologies.
IONBIKE 2.0 is a Horizon Europe MSCA Staff Exchanges project connecting 15 academic and industrial partners working on eutectogels for environmental, energy and bioelectronic applications.
Research exchange between Coimbra and Donostia
POLYMAT recently welcomed Liliana C. Tomé, from the Universidade de Coimbra, for a research stay hosted by Elena Gabirondo. The exchange focused on the environmental applications of eutectogels and ionic liquid-based membranes, including water purification and CO₂ separation.
New research in wearable bioelectronics
Separately, an international team including POLYMAT researchers Matias L. Picchio, Daniele Mantione and David Mecerreyes has published a study in Nature Communications, partly supported by IONBIKE 2.0.
The work integrates conducting-polymer eutectogel electrodes, smart textiles, wireless recording and machine learning to map electrical activity across the brain–muscle axis.
Together, these activities reflect the purpose of IONBIKE 2.0: connecting researchers, institutions and complementary areas of expertise to expand the possible applications of eutectogels.
