The Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering, POLYMAT, has been officially recognized with the prestigious María de Maeztu Accreditation during a ceremony held yesterday at CaixaForum in Madrid. The event was presided over by the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant and also attended by the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Juan Cigudosa García and brought together representatives from Spain’s leading centers and units of research excellence.
Dr. David Mecerreyes attended the event on behalf of POLYMAT. During her speech, the Minister emphasized the transformative impact of the accredited institutions and their contribution to society and industry. Morant noted that the María de Maeztu and Severo Ochoa Accreditations are a recognition of the excellence and capacity of research centers to tackle the major challenges of the 21st century.
The María de Maeztu Accreditation that POLYMAT received reinforces its position as an international leader in polymer research, focusing on the development of materials that address critical challenges such as energy, healthcare, and sustainability.
With the €2.25 million in funding awarded with this accreditation, POLYMAT will strengthen its organizational capacity, promote the recruitment of young research talent, and continue advancing the development of new macromolecular materials that will shape the future.
