POLYMAT Brings Ibaeta Campus Science to 200 Secondary Students
As part of Zientziarekin Jolasean, within the initiative Emakumeak Zientzian, POLYMAT researchers visited four secondary schools in Donostialdea this month to bring polymer science and research at the Ibaeta campus closer to younger generations. A total of 12 sessions were delivered, engaging around 200 students from 3rd and 4th year of secondary education at Karmengo Ama Ikastetxea, Arantzazuko Ama Ikastetxea, Zubiri Manteo BHI and Altza BHI.
The sessions were held directly at the schools and placed particular emphasis on showcasing real research experiences. Alodi Pascal delivered an engaging talk on her doctoral work focused on the fabrication of polymer foams through 3D printing, explaining how advanced manufacturing strategies enable the design of lightweight, functional materials with tailored properties. Her presentation offered students direct insight into the research process, from experimental design to potential applications, highlighting both the scientific challenges and the societal relevance of her work. The sessions concluded with interactive board games and 3D-printed models designed by Beñat Olave, which translated complex ideas into tangible learning tools.
