Emakumeak Zientzian 2026

From 3 to 11 February, POLYMAT once again took part in Emakumeak Zientzian, a week dedicated to highlighting the need for a more inclusive and equitable scientific community. Throughout the week, a wide range of activities were organised, all placing women scientists at the centre and showcasing their essential contribution to research and society.

Among the highlights was the annual “Journey to the Nanoworld” activity, organised together with CIC nanoGUNE. Twenty young students visited the laboratories to discover firsthand how research is carried out on a daily basis, gaining direct insight into the work and careers of researchers in advanced materials science.

This year also marked the launch of a new initiative, Playing with Science. Through this activity, POLYMAT researchers visited ten secondary school classrooms (ESO level), using board games as an engaging way to introduce students to the science developed at the Ibaeta Campus.

In addition, POLYMAT researchers took part in public talks, podcasts and interviews addressed to the broader community. These contributions focused on the science carried out by women, both past and present, and on the challenges that still need to be addressed to achieve a fairer and more inclusive research system.

POLYMAT would like to thank all the staff who participated in the different activities, making it possible once again to connect with citizens and institutions and to share our commitment to equality in science:
