Winter School in the frame of the Marie Sklodowska Curie - European Industrial Doctorate project REPOL

Today, we celebrate a Winter School in the frame of the Marie Sklodowska Curie - European Industrial Doctorate project REPOL - Characterization, compatibilization, processing and properties of recycled polyolefins, coordinated by Prof. Alejandro Müller.

The School has been held in the Auditorium of the Joxe Mari Korta building.

It has been divided in two sections:

1. Transversal Skills (Ms. Idoia Azaldegui) - ‘HR Excellence in Research, Gender Equality & Soft Skills to foster scientific excellence’. This lecture is also part of the implementation of both POLYMAT Gender Equality Plan and HRS4R Plan.

2. Scientific and technical lectures on Polymer Fractionation (Dr. Andreas Albrecht. Borealis). The summary of the short course content:

Several analytical techniques have been developed during the last 50-70 years to analyse and characterise the polymeric structure of polyolefin. The analytical techniques can be divided into 2 classes: separation techniques for analysing the molecular weight distribution (MWD) and techniques for determining the chemical composition distribution (CCD) and the molecular weight distribution along the chemical composition using hyphenated techniques. They include for analysing the MWD, size exclusion chromatography techniques and field flow fractionation and for determining the CCD, crystallisation based and interaction based techniques and combination of both. The microstructural information has been widely used to develop polyolefin with improved properties. During this course the separation mechanisms, recent advancements and the challenges which each of this techniques will be discussed.

It has been a course aimed at predoctoral researchers who have enjoyed listening first-hand to two important references.
