Alejandro J. Müller

Prof. A.J. Müller is a Materials Engineer from Simón Bolívar University in Caracas, Venezuela, specializing in Polymer Science. He holds a Master's degree in Chemistry from IVIC and earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Bristol University in the United Kingdom, where he studied polymer physics under the supervision of Jeff Odell and Andrew Keller. His fields of interest encompass structure-property relationships, morphology, nucleation, thermal transitions, crystallization, and crystallization kinetics of semi-crystalline and multiphasic polymeric materials. These include polymer blends, block copolymers, random copolymers, biopolymers, biobased and biodegradable polymers, nanocomposites, and hybrid materials. Globally recognized as an expert in thermal analysis, he developed advanced calorimetric protocols to study thermal fractionation and thermal transitions in polymers. Throughout his career, he has earned prestigious recognitions: the Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury Prize from the Polar Foundation in 1995, the Paul J. Flory International Award in 2011, and the Zhongguancun Award for International Cooperation in 2023 for his collaborations with the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He became a Corresponding Member of the Venezuelan National Academy of Engineering and Habitat in 2009 and the Latin American Academy of Sciences in 2021. Furthermore, Stanford University listed him among the world's top two percent most influential scientists in 2022, the same year he was named Ambassador of Donostia-San Sebastián for chairing the GEP-SLAP2022 congress. Since 2018, he has served as an editor for the Q1 journal Polymer in Polymer Physics and Physical Chemistry.
