Dr. Vincenzo Calabrese
After completing an MSc in Food Technology at Wageningen University (The Netherlands), he pursued a PhD in Soft Matter at the University of Bath (UK), focusing on the structure–property relationship of colloidal, rod-like cellulose. In January 2020, he moved to Japan to join the Micro/Bio/Nanofluidics Unit at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), led by Prof. Amy Shen and Dr. Simon Haward, first as a postdoctoral researcher and later as a Staff Scientist from 2023.In 2025, he spent a short period at the University of A Coruña as an independent researcher after receiving a Talent Research Fellowship from the Xunta de Galicia. In June 2025, he joined POLYMAT as a Junior Leader Fellow funded by the "la Caixa" Foundation.
His primary research interest lies in the rheological and structural behavior of polymer solutions and colloidal dispersions under flow. He combines experimental techniques such as rheology and microfluidics to address open questions in Soft Matter physics.
