Dr. Jone Muñoz
Dr. Jone Muñoz Ugartemendia is an adjunct professor in the Department of Mining-Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science at the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao (UPV/EHU) and develops her research activities in the Polymeric Biomaterials Science and Engineering group (ZIBIO Group) of POLYMAT.She was graduated as a Materials Engineer at the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao in Spain (2008) and followed with a Master in Advanced Materials Engineering at the same faculty (2009). Thanks to the predoctoral grant funded by the Basque Government she completed an international doctorate (2014) under supervision of Prof. Jose Ramon Sarasua entitled "In search of tough polylactides for tissue regeneration: Poly (L-lactide-co-epsilon-caprolactone) and its blends with poly (L-lactide)", which received the Cum Laude mention. Then, she started her academic path as an adjunct professor (Assistant professor).Currently, she is the coordinator of the departmental section of Bizkaia.
Her research is focused on the development, characterization and processing of biodegradable polymeric systems for biomedical applications and tissue engineering. Her interests include the development of well-controlled functional polymeric systems (piezoelectric materials, micro- and nanocomposites) and their transformation by advanced manufacturing technologies (3D printing, electrospinning etc.).
