Polymer Synthesis

Research in this area aims at developing strategies for the robust, efficient and environmentally friendly synthesis of polymers with controlled composition (functionality) and architecture. Activities involve unveiling fundamental mechanisms, development agents for reversible deactivation radical polymerization, organic and enzymatic catalysis, photopolymerization, substitution of oil-based monomers by biosourced monomers, synthesis of polymer hybrids, and polymerization strategies resulting from combining polymer chemistry and chemical engineering.

Current synthetic efforts are devoted to the synthesis of new polymer targets such as monodisperse macromolecules, supramolecular polymers, biobased polymers, biodegradable (co)polymers, polymer hybrids, DNA-polymer hybrids, nanographenes, graphene nanoribbons, (semi)conducting polymers, 2D polymers, porous organic polymers, covalent organic frameworks, organic cages, redox polymers, poly(ionic liquid)s, vitrimers, polymer bioconjugates, waterborne dispersed polymers and stimuli responsive polymers among others.
