Education

Ainara Agirre Mikelarena earned her B. Sc in Chemistry by the University Rovira I Virgili (URV) in June 2018. She carried out her bachelor project, about the effect of grafted Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) coagulation method on surface quality materials, in the company Elix Polymers, S.A. (Tarragona), where she was subsequently working during summer of 2018.

During 2018-2019 she completed the Master in Applied Chemistry and Polymeric Materials at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) obtaining a specialization in polymers. She carried out the master final project at POLYMAT under the supervision of Prof. Jose Ramón Leiza and Dr. Miren Aguirre. The project was based on the development of a new generation of polymerizable surfactant in emulsion polymerization.

Research

Since December 2019, she is doing her PhD in POLYMAT under the supervision of Prof. Jose Ramón Leiza and Dr. Miren Aguirre in collaboration with the company Elix Polymers. Her research project is focused on the introduction of polymerizable surfactant in the emulsion polymerization of ABS, maintaining the stability of the dispersion and improving the mechanical and optical properties of the final product. In addition, during the second part of the thesis, the improvement on coagulation process will be studied.
