Education

Mikel Irigoyen obtained his Bsc. in Chemistry in 2016 in the University of the Basque Country. He then obtained his Msc. In Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling in the same university where he started studying the dichalcogenide bond in self-healing materials theoretically. In 2017 he started his PhD. In POLYMAT, which he ended in 2021, under the supervision of Jon M. Matxain and Fernando Ruipérez. The title of the work was "A theoretical study of dichalcogenides as building blocks for efficient self-healing materials". In there, he studied the dichalcogenide bond by a variety of Theoretical Chemistry methods like DFT, TDDFT, Ab initio Molecular Dynamics and Classical Molecular Dynamics. He then joined the Elkartek project Kairos as a postdoc, in which he calculated the Mechanical Propertied of Polymeric Materials by means od Molecular Dynamics. His research is focused in the multi-scale study of polymers, ranging from electronic structure calculations (DFT) to Mechanical properties of polymers (MD).
