Liliana C. Tomé earned her B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Food Chemistry (2007) and her M.Sc. in Materials Derived from Renewable Resources (2008) from University of Aveiro, Portugal.

In 2011, she joined Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA), Portugal, where she developed her Ph.D entitled "Development of new membranes based on ionic liquid materials for gas separation". While working on her Ph.D, she spent 6 months at POLYMAT as a visiting student to synthesize and characterize poly(ionic liquid)s for gas separation membranes. In 2014, she obtained her Ph.D degree in Engineering and Technology Sciences – Chemical Engineering.

From January 2015 to August 2018, she worked as post-doctoral researcher at ITQB NOVA with a fellowship in Materials Engineering awarded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Portugal. During this period, she has competitively earned, as principal investigator, a national research project entitled "Designing poly(ionic liquid)-based engineered membranes for hydrogen purification".

Since September 2018, she joined the Innovative Polymers Group at POLYMAT, within the framework of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships (IF), to reinforce and build on necessary scientific skills that will help her for future career advancements.

Currently, her main areas of research are centered on the preparation and characterization of innovative poly(ionic liquid)-based materials for advanced gas separation membranes and bioelectronic devices.
