Since the massive energy consumption of the world and global warming concerns are continuously rising, generation of energy from renewable and CO2-neutral sources is one the greatest 21th Century's challenges. Solar Energy is the most abundant renewable energy source, and a promising alternative to fossil fuels. Our activities are oriented towards the achievement of highly efficient photovoltaic devices as well as suitable energy storage systems.

Novel materials that improve the cost and stability of new technologies such as organic and perovskite solar cells are investigated. Current research focuses on the synthesis of novel fullerene derivatives, polymer-based hole and electron transporting materials. Organic materials for new solar technologies such as single-fission or water splitting are also being explored.
