Polymers for Biomedical Applications

Polymers are extensively used in biomedical applications such as tissue regeneration, polymer drugs, polymer carriers for drug and gene delivery, bio-absorbable materials for vascular stents, prevention of postsurgical adhesives, polymer implants, diagnosis, hyperthermia, and theranostics. We are developing biocompatible and biodegradable polymers from natural resources (polylactides, chitosan, soya derived proteins, casein, cellulases) able to replace synthetic polymers based on non-renewable monomers. We are also interested in environmental sensitive biocompatible and also biodegradable soft nanoparticles in the colloidal range, useful for the delivery of bioactive agents to specific targets.
