Education

She earned her bachelor degree in Chemistry from the University of the Basque Country in Leioa in 2009.

In 2009-2010, she studied a Master in Applied Chemistry and Polymeric Materials in the University of the Basque Country, getting the master thesis in the department of Thermal Analysis about the topic "Nanocomposites Based on Biodegradable Polymers and Layered Double Hydroxides".

She did an internship in the technical department of R&D in QUIDE S.A (Deba, Basque Country) for a couple of months developing a line of water based varnish for parquet and other wood related products.

Research

Since January 2011 she is doing her PhD in POLYMAT under the supervision of Prof. Jose Ramón Leiza and Prof. José Carlos de la Cal funded by the Industrial Liaison Program. The aim of her PhD project is to synthesize acrylic latexes with high solids content (> 60 % wt) with the least possible amount of free emulsifiers. The synthesis of HSC latexes requires the control of the particle size distribution of the dispersion to achieve low viscosities. This has been carried out using conventional anionic emulsifiers. However, these emulsifiers easily migrate to the film surface and cause problems to the coatings. This project is focused in the use of polymeric or polymerizable emulsifiers that do not migrate when the film is formed.
