Rajeev K. Dubey obtained M.Sc degree in Chemistry from Devi Ahilya University, Indore, India. Subsequently, he completed Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Chemical Analysis from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India.

Thereafter, he moved to Finland to conduct Ph.D. research in "Supramolecular Photochemistry" group headed by Prof. Helge Lemmetyinen at Tampere University of Technology. He defended his Ph.D. thesis in 2013 titled as "Synthesis and Function of Photoactive Donor−Acceptor Systems of Bay-Functionalized Perylene Diimide Dyes in View of 1,7- and 1,6-Regioisomers" with cum laude. The Chemical Society of Finland recognized his Ph.D. thesis as the best dissertation for the year 2013.

Thereafter, he carried out post-doctoral research (2014-2017) with Dr. Ferdinand Grozema, Dr. Wolter Jager, and Prof. Ernst J. R. Sudhӧlter in Department of Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. In Delft, he had been actively involved in developing innovative methods for an easy and scalable synthesis of various bay-functionalized perylenes and in optimizing the photo-induced processes in perylene based systems.
