Marco Carini was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1986, he received the laurea degree in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies in 2010 at the University of Trieste. In 2008 he spent two months with an "International Mobility" fellowship at the University of Castilla – La Mancha (Spain), under the supervision of Prof. Ester Vázquez, where he worked on the functionalization of carbon nanotubes and carbon nanohorns.

From 2011 to 2013 he received a Ph.D. fellowship at the University of Trieste under the supervision of Prof. Tatiana Da Ros and Prof. Maurizio Prato. In this period he focused his investigation on multiple functionalization of Fullerene.
During the Ph.D. he was visiting POLYMAT with an "Erasmus Placement" grant, here he spent three months under the supervision of Prof. Aurelio Mateo-Alonso, in this period he worked on the derivatization of Fullerene-based Rotaxanes.

His research is focused in the organic synthesis and supramolecular chemistry of azaacenes for the preparation of material for electronic applications.
