Dr. Maitane Salsamendi earned her BS in Chemistry and her MS in Applied Chemistry and Polymeric Materials from the University of the Basque Country. In 2010 she got her PhD from CIDETEC (Technological Centre in Electrochemistry) and the University of the Basque Country. She benefited from a pre-doctoral stay in the group of Material Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, UK). She worked as a project manager in CIDETEC until she held in 2011 a two years post-doc position at the University of Strathclyde under the supervision of Prof. P. Cormack (Polymer Group) and Prof. D. Graham (Group of Molecular Nanometrology).

Honors and awards

She obtained the Doctorate Extraordinary Prize for the best doctoral within the Experimental Sciences Area of the University of the Basque Country. In 2010 she was awarded with a post-doc fellowship from the Basque Government: DKR, Department of education, linguistic policy and culture.

During her pre-doctoral research, she gained experience on the chemical and electrochemical synthesis and the characterization of new organic electrochromic materials (conducting polymers, viologens) and the assembly and characterization of electrooptic devices (electrochromic devices, OLEDs, Photovoltaic cells, VOAs (Variable optical attenuator)).

Her current interests include the design and synthesis of polymers, polymer bioconjugates and organic-inorganic hybrid systems for diagnostic tools.
