Education

Jose I. Martínez was born in Bilbao (Basque Country) in 1985; he obtained his BSc in Chemistry in 2008 at the UPV/EHU and his MSc in Synthetic and Industrial Chemistry in 2009 at UPNA and UPV/EHU.  In 2009 he joined Prof. Vicario's group at UPV/EHU where he carried out his PhD studies. He focused his investigations on the development of organocatalytic methodologies for asymmetric synthesis as an approach to sustainability in chemistry.  He moved to Prof. Martín Matute's group at University of Stockholm in 2010 and to Prof. Pericàs' group at ICIQ in 2011 as part of his PhD training where he worked in MOF and supported chemistry respectively.

He obtained his PhD degree in 2013 and he joined Vicario's group as postdoctoral fellow for 9 months. In the period from 2014 to 2016 he settled in the LamGroup at Nottingham University as postdoctoral researcher where he worked in the investigation of Rh catalysed chain walking processes. In 2016 he moved back to Vicario's group to continue his research in organocatalytic methodologies.

Research

His current investigations are focused on the synthesis and characterization of covalent organic frameworks.
