Education

She earned her BS in Chemistry and her MS in Chemical Engineering from the University Zulia, Maracaibo, Venezuela. She earned her PhD in Chemistry from the University of the Basque Country in Donostia-San Sebastián in 2003. The Thesis topic was " Mechanisms involved in the formation of phases during the production of high impact polystyrene ", Advisor Professor J.M. Asua.
Nowadays she works as post-doctoral researcher in waterborne polyurethane/acrylic Hybrid Pressure Sensitive Adhesives in the University Institut of Polymeric Materials (POLYMAT) of the University of the Basque Country.

Honors and awards

  • Table of honor of Chemical Engineering School 1990.
  • Table of honor of Chemical Engineering School 1992.
  • 21 received diplomas of honor in subjects studied in: Experimental Faculty of Science, Division of General Studies;Faculty of Medicine, School of Medicine and Faculty of Engineering , School of Chemical Engineering
  • AECI ( Agencia Espanola de CooperaciònIberoamericana ) Fellowship 1998 – 2001.

Research

During her predoctoral work, Gracia Patricia worked on bulk polymerization of styrene in the presence of polybutadiene ( HIPS ) focused on the influence of type and concentration of initiator on the final morphology. Next, she obtained an academic fellowship in the University of Zulia, in Venezuela. During this, she studied pedagogy and did a Master in chemical engineering. The thesis topic was mathematical modeling of copolimerization and homopolimerization of styrene and p-Me-styrene using CpTiCl3. She was associate professor in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Zulia until september 2005. In 1997, she won an AECI fellowship, and beginning her PhD at the chemical engineering Group of the University of the Basque Country, in Spain. With Professor J. M. Asua as her advisor, on December 2003, she read her PhD thesis :" Mechanisms involved in the formation of phases during the production of high impact polystyrene ".
Since July 2012 she joined the Polymerization Processes Group of the POLYMAT where she is studying the synthesis and characterization of waterborne graphene polymer composites with adhesive properties.
