Education

Daniel Sánchez de Alcázar Melendo earned his B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University Complutense of Madrid in July 2013. In 2014, he did his M.Sc. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biomedicine developing his master thesis about Malaria Cerebral at University Complutense of Madrid under the supervision of Dr. María Linares and Prof. Amalia Diez. Afterwards, in 2015, he did practices in IMDEA nanociencia about protein engineering. From 2016 to 2020, he carried out his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at the Basque Country University (UPV/EHU) in the Biomolecular Nanotechnology Group at CIC biomaGUNE under the supervision of Prof. Aitziber López Cortajarena. During his predoctoral studies his research focused on protein engineering in the field of functional biomaterials. He conducted his first Postdoctoral research in 2020 based on the fabrication of functional protein films in the Nanomaterials Group at CIC nanoGUNE under supervision of Prof. Mato Nez and Dr. Ana Beloqui.
Finally, in March of 2021, he joined to the Polyzymes Group under the supervision of Ana Beloqui to encapsulate individual antibodies within a thin polymeric mantle for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

Research

During his predoctoral studies, his research focused on protein engineering for the design of new nano/biomaterials. In particular, he worked with consensus tetratricopeptide repeat protein (CTPR) to fabricate robust and self-assembly biomaterials for applications in sensing and energy devices. As a postdoc and in line with his predoctoral studies he was involved in the second generation of energy devices based of enzyme-polymer nanohybrid as well as the design of glucose biosensor based on these hybrid systems.
