Verónica Alvarez earned her BSc in Chemistry in June 2013 and a MSc in New Materials in September 2014, by the University of the Basque Country. From September 2012 to June 2013 she was a student in the University of Liege, where she did research in synthesis of
biodegradable thermoplastic elastomers based on polyesters, in the Center for Education and Research on Macromolecules (CERM).

Her master thesis was carried out in the in the laboratory of macromolecular chemistry (LabQuimac), and the research focused on the synthesis and characterization of new polymeric materials sensible to external stimuli.

Since January 2015, she is doing her PhD in Polymat under the
supervision of Prof. Maria Paulis and Prof. Jose la Cal. Her
research is focused on the interaction of acrylic polymer dispersions
with fillers, especially with calcium carbonate as filler. Goal is to
build a deeper understanding of the factors influencing the
incorporation of the carbonate fillers, which comprise a large weight
fraction of latex based coating. Her project is part of the Industrial
Liaison Program (ILP).
