Sevilay Bilgin earned her BS major in Chemistry and minor in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ), Ankara, Turkey. She also received her MS degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Koç University, Istanbul. Her master thesis was on 'Self Healing Thermoplastic Elastomers'. During her master studies, she worked on the synthesis of polyacrylates, acrylic ionomers, polyurethanes and silicone-urea copolymers by using free radical and step growth polymerization techniques and investigated their self healing behavior. In the following years, she worked on the preparation of superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic polymer coatings by using micro- and nano-sized inorganic particles.

Since June 2013, she has been working as a PhD student in Polymat under the supervision of Prof. Jose M. Asua and Prof. Radmila Tomovska as a part of Industrial Liaison Program. Her research is on stabilization of emulsions by using ionic monomers.
