Alicia earned her B.Sc. in Chemistry at the University of Valladolid in 2011 and her M.Sc. in Biomedical research in the Molecular Biology and Genetics Institute (CSIC-UVa) in 2012. She was granted with an Erasmus scholarship in 2010 for spending a year at the University of Ghent.

Since July 2013 she is doing her PhD in Polymat under the supervision of Prof. Jose Ramon Leiza and Dr. María Paulis.

During her Bachelor project she worked on the synthesis of thermal unvarying material by combination of a negative thermal expansion material (ZrW2O8) and a positive expansion material (quartz) by dip-coating.

Her Master thesis was focused on the study of the effect of lipocalins in the axonal growing of neurons and their protection against neurodegeneration during development.

From August 2012 to June 2013 she worked at the Quality and Research department in the blown film extrusion company Makroplas S.L.

Her PhD project is focused on the production of nanostructured polymeric aqueous dispersions containing quantum dots for multiple applications such as biomarkers or sensors.
